Brett Kavanaugh’s Pro-Democracy, Let-The-People-Govern-Themselves Vision The Washington Post, July 10, 2018

July 10, 2018 by scadmin

Those qualities of judicious reason and care have been amply on display over the 12 years of Kavanaugh’s service on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit, sometimes known as the nation’s second-highest court. During that time, Kavanaugh has shown that he stands in a long tradition of jurists — that of Holmes, Brandeis, Cardozo, Frankfurter, Harlan and Stewart — who deeply respect both the democratic process and the structural principles undergirding our constitutional republic, while honoring the elaborately enumerated protections of “We the People” enshrined in the Bill of Rights.

Judge Brett Kavanaugh’s clerk: He was a wonderful boss and a fair-minded judge USA Today, July 10, 2018

July 10, 2018 by scadmin

As someone who has had the privilege of working for Supreme Court justice nominee Brett Kavanaugh, a few words spring to mind whenever his name is mentioned: Brilliant. Independent. Fair minded. Down to earth. Boss. Mentor. Friend. In the coming days, commentators will be spinning their own version of who Brett Kavanaugh is, as a jurist and as a person. Many have never met him. But I had the pleasure and honor of clerking for the judge. During that time, I worked with him intensely, helping him research cases and write opinions. The nomination of Judge Brett Kavanaugh to be the next Supreme Court justice is President Trump’s finest hour, his classiest move. Last week the president promised to select “someone with impeccable credentials, great intellect, unbiased judgment, and deep reverence for the laws and Constitution of the United States.” In picking Judge Kavanaugh, he has done just that.

Judge Brett Kavanaugh’s Impeccable Record of Constitutional Conservatism National Review, 7/2/2018

July 8, 2018 by scadmin

Social conservatives understand the stakes in filling the Supreme Court vacancy created by Justice Anthony Kennedy’s retirement. President Trump, who has excelled in his judicial nominations to date, has the opportunity to transform the Court for a generation to come. This is no time for a gamble. As social conservatives know from bitter experience, a judicial record is the best — really, the only — accurate predictor of a prospective justice’s philosophy on the issues that matter most to us. On the vital issues of protecting religious liberty and enforcing restrictions on abortion, no court-of-appeals judge in the nation has a stronger, more consistent record than Judge Brett Kavanaugh. On these issues, as on so many others, he has fought for his principles and stood firm against pressure. He would do the same on the Supreme Court.
