JCN’s Severino Praises Collins’ Support for Kavanaugh

JCN announces launch of a thank you campaign

WASHINGTON – Judicial Crisis Network’s Chief Counsel Carrie Severino praised U.S. Sen. Susan Collins’ (R-ME) announcement that she will vote to confirm Judge Kavanaugh to the Supreme Court:

“Sen. Collins deliberated and listened to both sides. She was reasoned, thoughtful, courageous, and showed great concern for the process. That’s exactly what a senator should do. She is doing the right thing by voting to confirm Judge Kavanaugh who is one of the most qualified judges in history. To show our appreciation, JCN will be launching a thank you campaign starting with Senator Collins.”

Judicial Crisis Network Releases Fresh Polling; Shows Majority of West Virginians Support Confirming Judge Kavanaugh

by scadmin

WASHINGTON – The Judicial Crisis Network released fresh polling from North Star Opinion Research that found the majority of West Virginia voters want the U.S. Senate to confirm Judge Kavanaugh to the Supreme Court.

West Virginia voters say that Judge Kavanaugh should be confirmed by 51 to 30 percent – a margin virtually unchanged since July.  This includes support among independents by a 50 to 24 percent margin, and among women by a 45 to 35 percent margin.

Statement from Judicial Crisis Network’s Chief Counsel and Policy Director, Carrie Severino:

“The people of West Virginia have made it clear they want Judge Kavanaugh, a fair and independent judge, confirmed to the Supreme Court. Senator Manchin has a choice between standing with his constituents or endorsing a Democratic smear campaign to destroy a decent man.”

JCN’s Severino on Patrick J. (“PJ”) Smyth’s Letter to Senate Judiciary Committee

WASHINGTON – Judicial Crisis Network’s Chief Counsel and Policy Director Carrie Severino responded to reports that Patrick J. (“PJ”) Smyth is sending a letter to Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Grassley and Ranking Member Feinstein today:

“PJ Smyth’s letter provides further confirmation that this story does not add up.  It is clear that Judge Kavanaugh had nothing to do with this.  The experience Dr. Ford describes sounds awful, but it is evident that Judge Kavanaugh was not involved.”

Collins on Kavanaugh Confirmation: Abusive Voicemails, Attempts by Liberal Activists to ‘Bully’ Won’t Influence Vote The Washington Free Beacon, September 12, 2018

September 12, 2018 by scadmin

Liberal activists have targeted Sen. Susan Collins (R., Maine) in an effort to pressure her to vote against President Donald Trump’s Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh, but she said their “threats” and attempts to “bully” will not influence her decision on whether to support the nominee.

Collins said she will instead vote based on “[Kavanaugh’s] qualifications, his character and integrity, judicial temperament, his record, and his respect for the rule of law and fidelity to the Constitution.”

Kavanaugh an excellent fit to continue the Supreme Court’s honored tradition The Hill, September 11, 2018 Opinion

September 11, 2018 by scadmin

Several Democratic senators auditioning for the 2020 presidential nomination for their party were in rare form. Led by Sens. Kamala Harris (Calif.) and Cory Booker (N.J.), the party apparatus relied on them in big ways to try and sully Kavanaugh in the most sinister of moves.

Why Women Should Support Judge Kavanaugh’s Nomination Real Clear Policy, September 10, 2018

September 10, 2018 by scadmin

Judge Kavanaugh does not hire ideologically — he hires women in record number regardless of their points of view. His former female law clerks, coming from diverse ideological persuasions, enthusiastically support Judge Kavanaugh’s nomination, not in spite of his position on women, but because of his advocacy for women.

The Supreme Court’s days as a super-legislature are over, and Democrats aren’t happy about it The Washington Examiner, September 6, 2018 Editorial

September 6, 2018 by scadmin

On Day Two of Judge Brett Kavanaugh’s Supreme Court confirmation hearings, a number of Democrats on the Senate Judiciary Committee appeared to be sizing themselves up for black judicial robes.

If they weren’t doing that, they were lamenting the fact that someone of their own great wisdom couldn’t sit on the Supreme Court — the highest legislature in the land, they seem to think — and rule the country from their lifetime position.

Statement from JCN’s Severino Responding to Day One of Kavanaugh Hearings

by scadmin

Judicial Crisis Network’s Chief Counsel and Policy Director, Carrie Severino responded to the first day of confirmation hearings for Judge Brett Kavanaugh to become the next Supreme Court Justice. “Democrats turned today’s confirmation hearing into mob rule because they have nothing on Judge Kavanaugh. As he made clear in his opening remarks, and as he has demonstrated throughout his career, Judge Kavanaugh is a highly qualified nominee and a mainstream judge who follows the law and adheres to the Constitution. And that’s why Democrats are so frustrated and hysterical.”

Why Sen. Elizabeth Warren’s attempt to bork Judge Brett Kavanaugh will fail The Wall Street Journal, August 27, 2018

August 28, 2018 by scadmin

Is there anything sadder than the sight of progressives solemnly going through their borking rituals when nobody cares? That’s what happened Sunday, when activists sought to mobilize the public to keep Brett Kavanaugh off the Supreme Court.

… ” But it barely registered a blip. All that sound and fury signifying one thing: They don’t have the votes.

Senate Democrats now want to deny Trump the appointment power Wall Street Journal, August 23, 2018 Editorial

August 23, 2018 by scadmin

We figure we’ve seen everything, but then Chuck Schumer keeps providing a daily education in weird political science. The Senate Democratic leader on Tuesday attempted the double bank shot of claiming that Brett Kavanaugh shouldn’t be confirmed for the Supreme Court because Michael Cohen copped a guilty plea.

So let’s see. Donald Trump is the elected President with the power of appointment under the Constitution, but because his former lawyer has pleaded guilty to evading taxes and paying off a couple of Mr. Trump’s alleged mistresses, Mr. Trump no longer enjoys the powers of the Presidency under Article II. This novel interpretation of presidential authority somehow eluded James Madison.
