WASHINGTON – Judicial Crisis Network’s Chief Counsel and Policy Director Carrie Severino responded to the Washington Post’s article from earlier today:
“Judge Kavanaugh is admired in his church, in his community, and in his profession. Throughout his distinguished career in public service, he has undergone half a dozen FBI background checks, and never a whisper of misconduct. Until the eve of his confirmation. Sixty-five women who were his contemporaries during high school have all come out saying that Brett Kavanaugh was and is a man of character and integrity. Countless women who have known Brett Kavanaugh personally and professionally spanning three decades have all testified to his respect for women, his character, and his integrity. Furthermore, Senator Feinstein apparently did not believe the allegations were serious, credible, or relevant enough to share with the FBI or any other member of the Senate Judiciary Committee, even in the confidential background portion of the committee process. It doesn’t add up. But what does add up is that Democrats are doubling down on a strategy of character assassination, seeking to destroy the life of a distinguished public servant for the sake of appeasing their base.”
Background:
Kavanaugh “has always treated women with decency and respect.” – Letter from 65 women who knew Brett Kavanaugh when he was in high school
“Throughout the more than 35 years we have known him, Brett has stood out for his friendship, character, and integrity. In particular, he has always treated women with decency and respect. That was true when he was in high school, and it has remained true to this day.”

Kavanaugh was “always humble… kind, accessible” – Letter from former Yale College female classmates
“Before he was a lawyer and a judge, Brett was an excellent student, a dedicated basketball player, and a great friend. He earned top grades, but was always humble; he never showed off his obvious brilliance or acted arrogantly. He was kind, accessible, and had a quick sense of humor. Brett was and remains a loyal friend to us and to many of our classmates.”

Kavanaugh is “a man of the highest integrity” – Letter from female colleagues who served with Kavanaugh in the Bush White House
“And in Brett Kavanaugh, we got to know a brilliant lawyer, a thoughtful friend, and a man of the highest integrity… As former colleagues of Brett’s, we know his commitment to equal treatment of women in the workplace and are especially proud of his efforts to encourage and support women lawyers.”

Kavanaugh has a strong “record of supporting women” – Letter from Kavanaugh’s former female law clerks
“But the Judge’s record of supporting women is as much qualitative as it is quantitative… He has counseled us on our career options, provided honest and highly valued recommendations to prospective employers, and sometimes given a much-needed nudge to those of us to doubted whether we were qualified to chase our ambitions. It is not an exaggeration to say that we would not be the professors, prosecutors, public officials, and appellate advocates we are today without his enthusiastic encouragement and unwavering support.”

“Kavanaugh’s character is exactly what the Senate should be looking for in a nominee for such an important position.” – Julie O’Brien, mother of one of the girls Judge Kavanaugh coached in basketball
“I have had the pleasure of knowing Brett Kavanaugh for years not as a federal judge, but instead as the coach of my daughter’s middle-school basketball team. In that capacity, I can personally attest to his kindness, leadership, and helpfulness. Judge Kavanaugh’s character is exactly what the Senate should be looking for in a nominee for such an important position.”
